#27. A Book a Day keeps the TV at bay

Michael, why don't you keep your blog up to date? This post is for you if you are one of the people who has been nagging me to do so. In short, my main blog (Audiobook Junkie) and my audio book addiction are the two main reasons I only post here a few times a month.

Why audio books and not the "real thing"? Since I spend most of my time out of the EFL classroom either in silence or immersed in Japanese it is nice to be able to listen to something, anything, in English. Unfortunately my TV selection on satellite is limited to the

more-often-than-not humdrum CNN (YUCK!), BBC, and Fox Japan. I was an avid old-time radio listener while growing up in Canada, especially CBS Radio Mystery Theater and whatever I could glean from the Ottawa Public Library. Now I keep my iPod nano packed with audio

books and permanently glued to my ear or portable speakers no matter where I am or what I am doing. This, and iPod's variable playback speed, allows me to "read" twenty plus books a month above and beyond the academic reading required for my University classes. Digital books are where it is at, Book worms eat your hearts out.
