Sure there is an amazing amount of great food in Japan. Sadly, real bread--what bread snobs who shun Wonder Bread and its evil cousins think of as real breadis notoriously hard to find.
Although pricey, "Kinokuniya"(Japan's first supermarket--literally "Store of Kii Province") has a very decent selection of tasty German-style loaves, and a large cheese section to boot.
